I am excited to begin the new year with the 7th grade and their families. I hope you have had a great summer though it still seems to be summer (it's 90 degrees outside today-but these days are less frequent). I also hope you are settling in to the school year and ready to take on learning more about who God has created you to be and what His plan is for you this year.
Youth ministry has opened up Youth Groups on Monday and Thursday evenings to the junior high so check that out when you can. The schedule is on the calendar tab.
As far as Religious Education, I hope that you will come to a new place in your relationship with Christ and also learn more about the Church, the sacraments, and all of the many ways God has provided for us. We are beginning with an opening Mass at the Oak St. Church on Wednesday, Sept. 26. There is no better way to start our year then by receiving the Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of our Lord together in community.
There are also Family Service opportunities in the calendar. The next opportunity is on Monday, Sept. 24. We will be going to Feed My Starving Children in Schaumburg, Ill.. Families are welcome but let us know how many in your group. If you are coming on your own and need a ride let us know. You will also need to fill out a YM registration (it is on the YM page under the forms and flyers tab).
Most of all I hope you look forward to the time you will have in RE. Each month there will be a Family Night where your family is invited to come with you. Yes, you can bring siblings. But if your family cannot come-come anyways! Some of the times I will have a speaker to talk with you on other nights I will have activities for you to do together or we may visit a nearby point of interest such as the Food Pantry and learn more about what goes on there. No matter what, it is always good to learn about your faith with your family. At the end of class there is snack time (which for some is their favorite time) where refreshments are served and you can spend time hanging with friends both old and new. I would ask that the first class night (not the Mass) you bring a bag of chips or a bag of cookies to help build up our refreshment supply.
Feel free to email (just click on my name to the right) or call me if you have any concerns or questions.
See you at the Mass on the 26th! It starts at 6:30 PM.
